The Lord committed 100% of His life so that we might be saved and He asks us to be100% committed to Him and His life-saving mission. We will not be able to live that level of commitment if we stay on our "buts" (excuses). Choose to be courageous, have some guts and watch what God will do in and through you.

In this passage Moses gave God's people two options, you can choose life and blessing or death and destruction. The quality of our life is not determined by the breaks we get in this life but by the choices we make. If we choose Jesus and His ways we will choose life and blessing.

Elijah sets the example for us as one who faithfully served and walked with God to the very end. He provides encouragement to those of us who know that when we leave this earthly place, we will one day be in our heavenly home with our Lord. The question is, what are we doing in the meantime? Even though Elijah had just experienced a great victory, he now found himself in a cave of deep depression. God came and spoke to Elijah in a still small voice and let him know He wasn't through with him. He had much more for him to do. There are times when we find ourselves in a cave of discouragement and depression, but if we listen for His still small voice, put our eyes on Him, we will experience hope, strength and encouragement in knowing that God is not through with us.

There are times after we have experienced a victory, our enemy launches an attack against us and we can succumb to feelings of depression just as Elijah did after his victory on Mt. Carmel. In those times, we must look at God rather than looking at our circumstances and trust that He will be faithful to fulfill His purposes for us.

The servant of God never stops serving God until He calls him or her home. Elijah teaches us how we can stay active and useful in serving the Lord all of our days. He believed and embraced the promises of God before he actually saw them fulfilled. As a result of his active faith, the people proclaimed, "The Lord He is God!" May we be like Elijah and live our faith, in a promise keeping God.
