Some people seem to drift aimlessly through life with no specific direction. Without clearly defined objectives they adopt a lifestyle that lacks purpose and meaning. Psalm 101 is a song of David, whose life was guided by a specific purpose. He understood God's plan for his life in spite of some serious nose dives into disobedience, he nonetheless pursued the course laid out for him. Which is why he is known as being, "A man after God's own heart."

In a practical sense it teaches us the actual purpose of the church-to joyfully express praise and worship with thanksgiving to God, to obey God's Word, to present ourselves for His service and to urge people in the world to come into a relationship with God through His Son.

Jesus makes reference to the greatest commandment in Mark 12:29-30, quoting directly from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 addressing the question of which commandment is the greatest? In Deuteronomy 6 we find God establishing that He is One. Not only do we see an allusion to the Trinity but more specifically the scriptures proves that Jesus in YHWH make up two persons in the Trinity and are in fact one. The foundational truth of YHWH and Jesus being one should shape the ways in which we choose to express our love for God. However, many have decided they would rather love God on their own terms instead of the ways in which He has commanded.

In verse ten of Psalm forty six, God tells us to, "Relax and get to know Me." "Come spend time with Me!" God is in our midst. He cares deeply about us. He's going to see us through whatever difficult situation we may find ourselves in. Therefore, we can relax, we can trust, we can be still, that is when we truly know that He is God.
