We live with the illusion of certainty, however, there are very few certainties in life. There will be times when events happen and our life can take an unexpected and possibly an unpleasant turn. You can find yourself in a very hard and trying situation. As you cast your cares on Jesus, you will find that you are not alone, not forgotten, not forsaken. God's grace and peace are always available and inexhaustible.

Peter tells us that as followers of Christ, we are all servant leaders. We are to take seriously the need to be godly role models, both tough and tender. Tender enough to pay the price and tender enough to take care of those God has placed in our care.

His sacrifice is all-sufficient, His blood cleanses us from sin, His life gives us life and He makes us children and heirs. In the midst of the pain the persecuted brothers were experiencing, Peter reminds them of the pain Jesus experienced and of the spiritual significance that His pain and death has for them and will have in and through them, for the sake of others.

It's tempting to think that if we do what God calls us to do, we will not run into any problems. Peter knew his brothers and sisters would be in placed in harm's way and encouraged them to endure, remain holy, full of hope, knowing that heaven would be their reward.

This is a great passage that instructs us on how we are to live at peace with other believers. When the world looks at us, they are to see believers unified and closely knit together. Brothers and sisters who stand together no matter the circumstances, who have a willingness to love and support each other through the trials and hardships that come in this life.

You can't afford to lose the war with temptation, or the battle against discouragement or despair. You must win the fight of faith and the war with the world. Scripture is full of admonitions on how to fight and win these battles.
