The Corinthian church was proud of its hands-off approach to the sins of those being committed within their community of faith, which were in direct conflict with God's standards laid out in His Word. Paul instructs them of the seriousness and importance of administering discipline and extending love for the health of the church and the glory of God.

Many of the Christians in Corinth were a mess even though they had experienced being rescued and redeemed through salvation in Jesus. They continued to hang out doing some of the deplorable activities they had been delivered from. Outward clothing can make a statement about us, what we believe, how we feel, etc. Our inward wardrobe, spiritually speaking also reveals what we believe, how we feel, who our lives belong to by the characteristics we live out. We need to take inventory of the closet of our heart and get rid of every piece that is of the old nature and put on those pieces that bring life, peace and joy, the ones that Jesus has provided for us. What's in your closet?

Finding rest in Jesus requires much more than taking some time off. Jesus asks us to learn from Him and to be led by Him. While that begins with sitting at His feet, it's meant to be a life long process of abiding in Him.

Paul urged them to return to the revealed wisdom of God so that they might be reconciled to one another, so their divisions would cease to exist. May we as believers today do the same.
